The Elusive Mt. Fuji

Mt. Fuji is that iconic mountain that has become the symbol of Japan. I cannot think of any other place that when mentioned or shown immediately places Japan in ones mind. Other iconic symbols could be sushi, or anime, or videogames. Geographically speaking, Mt. Fuji is Japan.

We arrived here in the summer of 2022 and stayed at a high rise with a promise of the view of Mt. Fuji, on a clear day. Summer days are never a clear day in Japan. There are clouds everyday, but yes, somehow on a clear-ish day, you can see a faint Mt. Fuji over the horizon.

We made a promise to ourselves that we will see Mt. Fuji. On Fall break, we booked a trip to Yamaguchi area, with the only objective to see Mt. Fuji. We booked a hotel at the foot of Fuji on a Glamp site 😮 If you ever had a chance to Glamp, this is the only way to camp 😛 the photos from their website is exactly how it looks in person. So beautiful!

The first 2 days, we see nothing but clouds, we would wake up on rains falling on to our “tent” the sound is so beautiful, we cannot go out of the Glamp site, the nearest restaurant is quite a walk. On a rainy day is not pleasant and our tent is so comfy we just want to stay in. So here we are chomping on our favorite dishes from the convenience store 🙂 thank you to Monopoly for an all day fun!

Camping is not complete without smores. We have to make do of what we have. No Graham crackers, no problem! No hershey bars, no problem. We will make it up as we go 🙂 Marshmallow? Check! Crunchy sweet crackers, check; Chocolate, check! We are ready to smores.

We have resolved ourselves that maybe this is not the trip where we see Mt. Fuji. After all, it is really elusive. But, on our last day, after lunch, all of a sudden, sunshine! We rejoiced, we looked at the clouds clearing and slowly and slowly She, her majesty is almost right in front of us. We hurried ourselves to go to the lake and get a closer view. A little bit of cloud is ok, but She is there. Her majesty, Mt Fuji is there! In these photos we waited by the deck and see how far we can wait.

By the time we got to the lake the clouds had cleared around the lake, did the touristy thing of riding a pedal boat with Mt. Fuji in the horizon. how cute is this!

Up the ropeway we go! The sky is getting clearer by the minute. They have such great places to take photos.

This is probably my favorite one of all. The kids swinging towards Mt. Fuji

By the end of the day, sunset is just as majestic. I was such in a hurry to go back to the deck and take photos. I was walking so fast, an older Japanese lady stopped me on my tracks, spoke to me in Japanese. Oh how I wish I can speak to her, she pointed the beautiful sunset happening that I am missing. A good reminder to look around you, admire every moment, because it could easily pass us by. Thank you to the wonderful grandma who asked me to stop. We spoke briefly, thank you to Google translate. I told her the sunset is magnificent, gave a smile on her face. I wish I knew what she said back 🙂 but here it is. Mt Fuji, by Lawson

More sunset photos… and sunrise is just as beautiful. Yes, Mt Fuji is elusive, but when she reveals herself, there’s no denying. It is visible up to Tokyo.
